Decorate my creative journal cover with me! This was going to be my junk journal, but I decided not to limit it to junk journal exclusively and make it into a journal where I can do whatever kind of spreads I want! Tbh I didn’t want to do this in my daily journal because it hurts my soul to use a Tomoe River notebook to junk journal lol. So I’m using this old free notebook that has been sitting unused on my shelf for it.

Today we’re shining a spotlight on a very, VERY affordable fountain pen-friendly notebook that’s sort of a cult favorite among enthusiasts: the Daiso Premium Notebook.

Despite the fact that there are so many branches of Daiso in Bangkok, it was actually quite hard to get my hands on this notebook, so when I saw a couple at a branch near my place, I immediately grabbed them. It was a very pleasantly surprising testing session that I conducted with this notebook, and I can honestly say that I’ll be hoarding these as much as I reasonably can.

I also have a stack of notebooks lined up for testing and reviews. If there’s one you’d especially like to see, leave me a comment—I’ll do my best to include it if I can find it!

Got myself some super affordable fountain pens from @flyingtigerthailand to try if they’re any good. Tbh they had a ton of stationery and art supplies, too. But I restrained myself from going overboard and just got myself these pens for now.

Here’s entry no. 4 this week’s #penandinkchallengesep25! Today’s prompt is purple.

I don’t own a lot of purple inks (yet), but purple is one of my favorite colors! I chose today’s ink because I haven’t had much opportunity to use it, and the gold shimmer is just so pretty! This ink from @inksbyvinta is called ‘Puto Bumbong’. It’s one of the three inks that came in their ‘A Holiday Feast Capsule Collection’.

If you aren’t familiar, Puto Bumbong is a traditional Filipino Christmas delicacy It’s a purple rice cake steamed in bamboo tubes, often served with butter (or margarine), coconut, and brown sugar. The gold shimmer is representative of either (or both) the sugar and the butter/margarine. It’s my mom’s favorite dessert!

It was so hard to pick which green to use, seeing as green is my favorite color and I have a ton of green inks, so I went with the ink I currently have inked in my stub nib pen (and one that had unexpectedly turned me on to warm greens).

Here’s one of my favorite green inks! This is “Jane Austen” by De Atramentis. It’s a deep green ink that’s a bit subdued. I find it to be quietly elegant, neither flashy nor muted. It has a very similar character to the ink Green Umber by Diamine, with a very subtle difference in undertones.

The Platinum Preppy is beloved for its reliability, but the Muji Polycarbonate Fountain Pen takes the same heart and dresses it in clean, minimalist Muji design. This is one of my favorite entry-level pens to recommend!

I wanted an insert for my passport-sized traveler’s notebook, but with 4 mm dot grid on fountain pen-friendly paper. It spiraled from just learning how to make my own notebook to spending hours designing the cover and drawing the illustrations, printing the dot grid on some MD paper, and then here we are.

I liked doing this a lot. I may have just unlocked yet another hobby for myself 😅

จากความอินกับการเขียนบันทึกกับปากกาหมึกซึมมากๆ ตอนนี้เราได้เผลอหลงเข้ามาในโลกของการเย็บสมุดเอง ตอนแรกแค่อยากได้สมุด insert สำหรับ Traveler’s Notebook ที่เป็น dot grid ขนาด 4 มม. บนกระดาษที่เขียนหมึกซึมได้สบาย ๆ (เอาจริงมันหายากมากนะ ถ้าจะเจาะจงขนาดนี้) เลยตัดสินใจทำเอง แต่จากแค่จะลองทำเล่น ๆ ก็ดันกลายเป็นนั่งออกแบบปก วาดรูปประกอบ พิมพ์ dot grid ลงบนกระดาษ MD แล้วก็ได้สมุดเล่มนี้ออกมาในที่สุด

เราสนุกกับการทำมาก ๆ เลยนะ รู้ตัวอีกทีเหมือนจะเจองานอดิเรกใหม่เพิ่มแล้วก็ได้ 😅

จากความอินกับการเขียนบันทึกกับปากกาหมึกซึมมากๆ ตอนนี้เราได้เผลอหลงเข้ามาในโลกของการเย็บสมุดเอง ตอนแรกแค่อยากได้สมุด insert สำหรับ Traveler’s Notebook ที่เป็น dot grid ขนาด 4 มม. บนกระดาษที่เขียนหมึกซึมได้สบาย ๆ (เอาจริงมันหายากมากนะ ถ้าจะเจาะจงขนาดนี้) เลยตัดสินใจทำเอง แต่จากแค่จะลองทำเล่น ๆ ก็ดันกลายเป็นนั่งออกแบบปก วาดรูปประกอบ พิมพ์ dot grid ลงบนกระดาษ MD แล้วก็ได้สมุดเล่มนี้ออกมาในที่สุด

เราสนุกกับการทำมาก ๆ เลยนะ รู้ตัวอีกทีเหมือนจะเจองานอดิเรกใหม่เพิ่มแล้วก็ได้ 😅

I haven’t read this in almost a decade and now that I’m getting back into reading, I wanted to get lost in it. The film adaptation of this book is one of my favorite movies, but while it’s a well-made movie and good representation of the book, reading how Patrick Süskind wrote it is a completely different level of experience.

I’ve also started a simple reading journal with the books I’ve read this year. It’s a pretty simple and minimal layout, with lots of notes because I like to take notes when I read lol.

Today, we’re looking at the ink Green Umber by Diamine. This is a mossy, dark green with a soft quality to it. It’s quiet, contemplative, and serene. It’s a beautiful, subtle color that I think many people might overlook, but this shade of green is one of my absolute favorites to write with.

Today’s ink in focus is a simple black ink from Diamine. This is “Jet Black”, a highly saturated black ink that has a slightly reddish pseudo-sheen (though it is not marketed as a sheening ink). I actually bought this in the early days of my fountain pen journey in hopes of finding a very dark black ink (without going into permanent inks) and didn’t actually do any research before ordering it. It’s not the darkest of black inks out there, but it’s a pretty good black ink if you’re looking for one that won’t break the bank.

If you use fountain pen ink cartridges, don’t throw the empty ones away! You can always reuse them with whatever fountain pen inks you want to, and you’re reducing waste in the process! Here’s how I clean out my empty cartridges so I can reuse them in the future!

Also, some brands with proprietary cartridges can hold more ink than their converters, so you won’t need to refill your pen quite as often! A lot of pens don’t come with converters when you buy them, just a cartridge or two, so you’ll can also save money this way!

ถ้าใครใช้หมึกแบบหลอดกับปากกาหมึกซึมอยู่ อย่าเพิ่งทิ้งหลอดเปล่านะ เราสามารถล้างแล้วเอากลับมาใช้ใหม่กับหมึกอะไรก็ได้ที่เราชอบ แถมยังช่วยลดขยะไปในตัวด้วย วันนี้เลยอยากมาแชร์วิธีที่เราใช้ล้างหลอดหมึกเพื่อเก็บไว้ใช้ในครั้งถัดไป

อีกอย่างคือ หลอดหมึกของบางแบรนด์ที่ใช้ได้เฉพาะกับปากกายี่ห้อของเขาจะจุหมึกได้มากกว่าคอนเวอร์เตอร์ด้วยนะ เพราะงั้นจะไม่ต้องเติมหมึกบ่อยๆ เลย ปากกาหลายรุ่นเวลาเราซื้อก็ให้แค่หมึกหลอดมา 1–2 อัน ไม่ได้แถมคอนเวอร์เตอร์มาให้ เพราะฉะนั้นล้างหลอดหมึกแล้วเอามาใช้ซ้ำก็ประหยัดเงินได้อีกทาง

If you use fountain pen ink cartridges, don’t throw the empty ones away! You can always reuse them with whatever fountain pen inks you want to, and you’re reducing waste in the process! Here’s how I clean out my empty cartridges so I can reuse them in the future!

Also, some brands with proprietary cartridges can hold more ink than their converters, so you won’t need to refill your pen quite as often! A lot of pens don’t come with converters when you buy them, just a cartridge or two, so you’ll can also save money this way!

อีกอย่างคือ หลอดหมึกของบางแบรนด์ที่ใช้ได้เฉพาะกับปากกายี่ห้อของเขาจะจุหมึกได้มากกว่าคอนเวอร์เตอร์ด้วยนะ เพราะงั้นจะไม่ต้องเติมหมึกบ่อยๆ เลย ปากกาหลายรุ่นเวลาเราซื้อก็ให้แค่หมึกหลอดมา 1–2 อัน ไม่ได้แถมคอนเวอร์เตอร์มาให้ เพราะฉะนั้นล้างหลอดหมึกแล้วเอามาใช้ซ้ำก็ประหยัดเงินได้อีกทาง

Day 1 of trying pointed pen calligraphy with an oblique pen. Just practicing with my shaky hand for now to get used to the feel and how it works with modern calligraphy (or at least my attempt at it), and then I’ll actually start properly learning copperplate (classic procrastination lol).

Day 4 prompt for my week of collaboration with @penandinkchallenge on the #penandinkchallengeaug25 is “Love”.

This is Benzaiten, the Japanese goddess of love, music, eloquence, and the arts. She is one of the most fascinating deities in Japanese mythology because she’s a blend of Shinto and Buddhist traditions, with origins that trace back to Hinduism. She is also one of the Seven Lucky Gods (Shichifukujin), and the only female deity in the group.

She’s usually shown as a beautiful woman dressed in elegant robes, seated or standing with a biwa in her hands. Sometimes, she is depicted with serpent or dragon motifs, since in some myths she transforms into a white serpent—a symbol of protection, fortune, and sometimes jealousy in love.

This drawing has taken me the longest to finish so far, since I decided to hatch the shadows with a super fine pigment liner to get a whole lot of details.

I’m super late, but will be posting all the rest of the beautiful goddesses for this week of collaboration with @penandinkchallenge on the #penandinkchallengeaug25 sometime today lol.

Day 3 prompt for the week of Mythos is “Harvest”. I wanted to take the opportunity to explore deities in mythologies that I’ve not been familiar with, so here’s Chicomecōātl, the Aztec goddess of maize and sustenance.

Chicomecōātl is often described as “the sustainer of life” because maize was considered the lifeblood of the Mexica people. Back in the pre-Hispanic era, her principal festival was celebrated during the month of Huey Tozoztli (roughly early May).

During this festival young maize cobs were offered and blessed in temples, women carried bundles of tender corn dressed in cloth and flowers, and a female priest would impersonate Chicomecōātl in ritual dances.

Today’s ink in focus is the iconic Oxblood from Diamine. This is, obviously, an oxblood red — a deep, dark, rech red with brown undertones. It’s bold, yet elegant. It’s one of the first inks I’ve ever bought a bottle of as I was looking for a deep, blood-red ink. This is one of the few inks I have constantly inked in a pen, ready to be used at any time.

Today, we’re reviewing the Kokuyo Campus A5 Business Notebook. This one’s a well-loved staple in many countries, and it’s the go-to notebook in Japan — from school desks to office meetings.

While the Campus series is already known for being fountain pen-friendly, I wanted to see how it holds up with ink swatching and flex nibs.

Kokuyo actually has several other notebook lines that are designed with fountain pen users in mind, and I’ll definitely share more about those soon!

I don’t have a specific item that I’m attached to for comfort, but there are certain scents that do give me that. One of the scents is White Musk by The Body Shop. It’s been a staple in my life for a long time. I use the perfume oil to layer beneath some of my other perfumes, but sometimes I just wear it on its own. If I feel like I need that feeling of warmth and comfort, I wear it whether I’m going out or just staying home. I can’t explain exactly what in it brings me comfort, it just does.

Another thing that I don’t leave home without is a necklace. I have a couple I wear regularly, including this one with an opal pendant. I have this habit of touching or fidgeting with my necklace whenever I’m thinking hard or need some sort of comfort. I never noticed it until a friend pointed it out and asked if the necklace had any significance to me and that’s why I kept touching it. I think I do it with whatever necklace I’m wearing, tbh. I don’t know when it started, but I haven’t left my house without a necklace in the last 5 years or so.

What better ink to use for this prompt than the one inspired by the sound of heavy rain coming down? The ink “Zaza” is part of the “2023 Shikiori Amaoto (Sound of Rain) collection, featuring 4 onomatopoeic rain sounds as their actual ink names (and yes, I have all four because hehehe)

I gave myself an extra challenge for this prompt: to experiment and let go of perfection. I wanted to try something new—still incorporating the straight lines I love, but letting them break up a bit with more organic elements. Tbh, my brain kinda rebelled, but I just kept chanting “trust the process” in my head lol.

หน้าฝนมาแล้ว ช่วงนี้ฝนตกบ่อยมากจนแทบถ่ายรูปตอนมีแสงธรรมชาติสวยๆไม่ได้เลย ควรลงทุนกับไฟสตูดิโอมั้ย หรือปล่อยให้แสงหม่นๆพาเราเข้าฟีลไปเลยดี

เดือนนี้เราใช้หมึกสีเทาเป็นครั้งแรก แล้วก็เป็นหมึก Wearingeul ขวดแรกในกรุด้วย ตั้งใจเลือกสีเทาโทนเย็นๆ ให้คล้ายท้องฟ้าครึ้มๆ ก่อนฝนตกหนัก ตอนนี้เริ่มอยากได้หมึกเทาเพิ่มแล้วอ่ะ
